Merc, I see a pattern with your replys. LOL . But I have U-Verse its not all bad. You should like the performance increase...think of the big picture better WOW experience.

U-Verse is awesome. I wouldn't touch AT+T when they were doing DSL, but when they switched their internet service over to fiber I jumped on board and never looked back. Beats the hell out of the service that cox offered. I've had to reboot my modem/router only once in 3 years. TV selection is pretty nice as well.

You know, I wonder if the old phone lines were analog the whole way, or they went digital somewhere on the transmission line...

Then you could have used some of the OFDM tricks to get more bandwidth out of dial up...

It's moot anyways, I checked the AT&T site and it said they require "owner consent" to do the installation. So it looks like I need to switch over to (evil) Comcast because I rent.

On the positive side, you can get into the IPv6 trial, and use DNSSEC enabled DNS servers. I wish Verzion FiOS would do that.

After reading all the complaints about Comcast and Verizon, I'm looking at DSL Extreme now. Supposedly DSL Extreme works with dry loop connections like mine (I currently don't have phone service with AT&T). This way, I can still have an internet connection, without having to risk my landlord's wrath, or pay the 150 dollar installation fee.

Just an FYI, if I don't do one of these things:

a. Clean my apartment
Call my landlord
Get his approval for U-verse (which likely will require cleaning the apartment)
Pay for, and take time off to have U-verse installed,

b. Get a different DSL provider, possibly involving time off from work

I will have no internet service at home after February 7th.

I'm leaning towards just switching over to DSL extreme, since I think that will be less of a hassle, even if I end up having to buy a basic phone line through another provider, which is something I wanted to do anyways. However, I did read somewhere on the DSL extreme site that they support naked DSL, but again, it requires that Verizon supply the phone line ??

Worst case scenario, if I don't have internet lined up by the first week of February, I can try to play WoW on my laptop from my friend's house, but I'm not thrilled by the idea of driving 10 miles away from home one way just to play WoW.

I ordered Sonic.net Fusion DSL & phone service on Monday 1/16/12. I received my ASDL2 modem in the mail on Wednesday 1/18/12. However, I still have not heard when my service will be switched over from AT&T to Sonic.net, which has me worried, since if my internet service gets cut off randomly, and I can't get it working, then I will not able to supervise guild activities. *fusses*

Heh, heh, naked DSL.

AT&T came out to my apartment on Friday morning (1/20/12) to install the phone line.

I got an email from Sonic.net on Monday (1/23/12) apologizing for the delay in my internet order. Unfortunately, they did not say when the internet would actually be ready, but according to Yelp, I should have the new internet within 10 business days of my original order, so probably on 1/30/12. Cross your fingers!
